(WALB) - A Tifton man was sentenced to federal prison without parole after robbing a bank by telling the bank clerk he had a bomb, according to Peter Leary, acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. (WTXL) — An investigation by the Adel Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration resulted in a 29-year-old woman being arrested for maintaining a drug house in Adel, Ga. Facing federal charges, 29-year-old Kiera Keann Cooksey pleaded guilty to one count of using or maintaining a drug premise before U.S. District Judge Louis Sands on Tuesday, Jan. 12. Cooksey faces a maximum 20 years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine, according to Peter D. Leary, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. There is no parole in the federal system. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.

(WALB) - A convicted felon arrested with an assault rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition in Lanier County was sentenced to eight years in prison for illegally possessing the firearm, said Peter Leary, the acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. Blake Richard Ruis, 26, of Valdosta, was sentenced to serve 96 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Louis Sands on Dec. 17, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
