County jail on lockdown due to COVID-19 | News, Sports, Jobs

tgiambroni@reviewonline.com LISBON The county jail is under a lock down after 16 inmates and two staff tested positive for COVID-19. Warden Tom Mackie said the infected inmates are being held separately in the same pod and away from the other inmates, with each inmate in their own cell. The problem began last week when five inmates were found to have elevated temperatures. “As a precaution we reported it up the chain, and Wes Vins (the county health commissioner) recommended we test everyone,” Mackie said. On Saturday, a medical team from East Liverpool City Hospital arrived to test all 108 inmates and the staff as well. Everyone took the rapid response test and all but three inmates took the more accurate nasal swab.
