Strategic mowing or disking another way to help wildlife | Rosenthal Tallahassee Democrat 2/25/2021 Stan Rosenthal, Guest columnist © Phil Gornicki Part of a field in the Leon County Miccosukee Canopy Road Greenway that has been successionally disked and planted for wildlife. A friend of mine was out on one of the Leon County Greenways and noticed that some of the fields had been disked up in strips. This disking was done to create rows of undisked and recently disked areas. This interesting geometric pattern caught his eye and he asked me if I knew why this was done. The term for what he saw is successional mowing or disking. The main purpose of this is to improve wildlife habitat.
