The University of Fort Hare has been given until close of business on Thursday to lift its suspension of two students on Monday following a violent protest or face being hauled to court.
“Surprising”, “perplexing” and “sponsored anarchy” are just some of the words being associated with the violent protest at the University of Fort Hare on Sunday night.

Protesters caused damage running into several millions of rand when they set fire to the university’s indoor sports centre foyer, looted foodstuffs from the cafeteria and smashed windows of a computer laboratory.
The University of Fort Hare says the examination sessions scheduled for Monday morning will be rescheduled to a later date after violent protests at its Alice campus on Sunday night and the early hours on Monday.
