Vulgar or good for trade? Hotel plan splits opinion );
PLANS for a Premier Inn in Henley have divided residents.
They were responding to a planning application for the five-storey building, which would be built on the car park at the station.
The application was submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council, the planning authority, by Blocwork, a partnership between the landowner Network Rail and developer Bloc Group, of London.
Geoff Luckett, chairman of the Henley Society, a conservation group, says the developer has failed to respect the historic character of the adjacent conservation area.
He also says the 115-bedroom hotel would be unneighbourly, particularly to residents living in Wyndale Close, which backs on to the car park.

As the preparations for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023 intensifies, a diaspora group known as Governor Yahaya Bello Solidarity Movement, has joined the voices calling on Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to join the race.
Coordinator of the group, Joy Robinson, in a statement issued in Abuja said , that their decision to back the governor is because there’s need for what she called a competent, energetic, detribalised, progressive, courageous and a religious leader to oversee the affairs of the country.
The group noted that anybody with such qualities would assist in taking the country away from the current social and economic problems facing the country, saying Bello possessed all these in addition to being a youth with a track record of performance.

According to the December report from Advertising and Promotion Commission treasurer Joe Wessell presented during the commissionâs January meeting at the Paragould Community Center, the commission retains $159,367.91 for grants to promote the city.
âAs bad as 2020 was,â said at-large commissioner Kimberly Dale, âit was survivable.â Dale chaired the meeting in the absence of chairman Jeremy Biggs.
According to Wessellâs report, the commission received $124,977.60 for 2020, an average of $10,414.80 a month. The revenue was in line with Biggsâ initial 2018 planning projections of $10,000 a month, despite the commissionâs decision at its April 1 meeting to suspend collection of the tax for April, May and June of 2020 due to anticipated fall-off in hotel occupancy as the result of the COVID-19 restri
