BARROW town centre was deserted on Boxing Day this year due to the pandemic and many retailers deciding to stay closed. Queuing crowds are usually expected on the high street, waiting in anticipation of the great deals to be had after Christmas. The Mail s readers reacted to the unusual sight. Darren Gill said: Perhaps more shops in the town centre rather than being plagued by cafes and charity shops. Wendy Joshuaalisha Webb said: Darren Gill cafes? Where are there cafes? Mike Braithwaite said: The money will still get spent. I ll happily spend my money in any shop that let its staff have two days/ three days off at Christmas over those that opened on Boxing Day.
