To galvanize and energyize our collective consciences to take action to realize the dream. He has been an elected leader, the president of a southern christian leader conference, the head of the Martin Luther king jr. Center for nonviolent social change, the founder of realizing the dream. He is a National Civil rights champion, a Global Human Rights crusader. He is the father of yo landa renee, the husband of andrew waters, the big brother of dexter and bern niece, the younger brother of the late dwro landa denees. Born of cortea scott king and the namesake of dr. Martin luther king, jr. , ladies and gentlemen, Martin Luther king iii. Five decades ago, my father dr. Martin luther king, jr. , stood upon this hallowed spot. And the spirit of god spoke through him and summoned the nation to repent and to redress the shameful sins long visited upon its African American brothers and sisters. 50 years ago, he delivered a sermon on this mountain which crystalized like never before the painfu
Certainly taken a turn backwards. Am i depressed . No. I am energized to move forward and to be sure to see the gains that we have encountered and had to come to us, that we have had to work so hard for, are not lost. So i do ask you, one of our next steps, we created a framework, but there is so much work to be done. Many of our civil rights leaders, including my husband and dr. Martin luther king, were still of an age when they took the lead. With that question and mind, i challenge you to get back to community building. It is your problem, it is our problem, it is our neighborhood. These are our children, you are the parents. But in that same breath, and victory will be a collective one. It is with a clear conscience, knowing what we have done and can do, that we will reach that mountaintop, and we will overcome. But it will take each and every one of us, in unity, in unison, letting those who say that they managed this country of america know that it is the people. It is the voice
And others understood the intersection between racial equality and economic justice. The civil rights struggle is a struggle for good jobs and decent wages. And no while not the only solution they got, that Educational Opportunities is the highway to Economic Opportunity, which is why we must reclaim the promise of Public Education. And as i close, let me just say this, we stand here today as students, my friend and brother lee saunders, and myself, 50 years ago another gay person had to be in the shadows. But today i speak as a teacher, a worker, a labor activist, and a gay person deeply committed to my faith. \his is who we must be. A country that believes in equality and acts on that belief. So lets take a lesson from king. Lets unite. People of faith in a national day of prayer. To end Child Poverty. Lets use sitins to oppose stand your ground laws. Lets have freedom ring for the message of equality to save regards to immigrants as anything less than equal. And let all of us, not s
