Washed the fire burn around them. They were just very fortunate to make it through that. Others were not so lucky. 17 people are confirmed dead. Authorities warn that the death toll could rise. More than 180 people are reported missing. Communications problems is a big part of this. Many survivors say that they escaped just steps ahead of the flames.
