Washed the fire burn around them. They were just very fortunate to make it through that. Others were not so lucky. 17 people are confirmed dead. Authorities warn that the death toll could rise. More than 180 people are reported missing. Communications problems is a big part of this. Many survivors say that they escaped just steps ahead of the flames. Went out and they were screaming fire, fire, fire. Get out, get out. Sad. My house is okay. All of my neighbors arent. I just dont know where to go from here. Fire crews say that given the massive challenge of battling more than a dozen wildfires, their focus right now is just simply trying to keep people alive.
