Jose Bautista was born on October 19, 1980, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was the
Pirates 20th round draft pick in the 2000 draft. Jose played college ball in the states, making him eligible for the draft.
The
Orioles took Jose in the Rule 5 draft before the 2004 season. He played a handful of games with them, and then the
Rays claimed him off waivers. From there he went to the
Royals,
On August 21, 2008, the
Blue Jays traded
Robinzon Diaz to the Pirates for Bautista. I had just started writing for BBB a couple of months before that. Our poll on the trade had 48% saying it was a good trade and 52% saying bad. That shows why we aren’t working in the scouting department. Jose played in 21 games at the end of the season, hitting .214/.237/.411.
