Kohl Stewart got his first start in the Cubs organization and was pretty darn dominating over five innings. He allowed one run on one hit and walk walk. He struck out nine. The one hit was a triple down the right field line, just like on Thursday night against Cory Abbott.

On September 14, 2019, the South Bend Cubs beat the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 to sweep the best-of-five series three games to none and claim the Midwest League title. Five hundred and eighty-eight days later, on Tuesday, May 4, there will be Cubs teams playing minor league baseball again.

My family popped down to Arizona for a quick Spring Break trip this past week, so I had to drop by the Cubs backfields for a few days to see the action at minor league Spring Training. It was a bit of a fool’s errand, as fans and media aren’t allowed anywhere particularly close, but boy was it good to see familiar faces and hear the crack of the bat again.
