AN INSPIRATIONAL Fermanagh schoolboy has been announced as the receipt of a Michaela Foundation Wings Award. 12-year-old Mark West from Maguiresbridge is a pupil at Jones Memorial Primary School, and is the first pupil from Jones Memorial to be awarded this award, in recognition of how much he helps others with technology at school. He was very pleased with his award from the foundation when he was interviewed by The Impartial Reporter, with Mark saying that he and his mum both cried when the award was announced via an awards ceremony on Zoom virtual meetings last week. Mark was one of three winners of the Michaela Foundation Wings Award for 11-13 year olds, that is awarded to young people who are motivators within their local community.
The late James (Jim) Kerr died peacefully (non Covid-related) in the early hours on Monday morning. He will be remembered across the county for his many years of dedication as a schoolteacher, teaching principal and headmaster of various schools across Fermanagh. Daughter Helen led tributes to her late father, referring to him as her best friend . She said: “I think the one thing that is the [abiding] memory of my dad is the time I had with him, and that’s the bit that makes me well up now, because I will never have that time again. I have memories; I could talk about him for the next 10 years, and I still could never tell you everything I know.
Four local schools have partnered with the National Trust in Fermanagh as a way of supporting the physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing of pupils, staff and families as a result of Covid-19. The programme, which began in January, involves approximately 1,200 pupils, staff and their families in the school community accessing the natural environment and resources available in the National Trust’s care to develop their physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Closer to nature This will be achieved by families having the opportunity to get closer to nature at Florence Court, Castle Coole and Crom. Schools involved in the Shared Education cluster include Enniskillen Integrated Primary School, Enniskillen Nursery School, Holy Trinity Primary and Nursery School and Jones Memorial Primary School. School passes are being distributed through the local schools, along with an information pack and terms of use.
