Committee weighs moving, staying options for City Hall | News, Sports, Jobs

mmaroney@sungazette.com City Council’s Ad Hoc City Hall Committee met Tuesday and honed in on two final options to remain at the current City Hall or to renovate office space the city owns at Trade and Transit Centre I or II. “I think we are making progress to the point of completion for the committee,” said Councilman Adam Yoder, its chairman. Short of a funding plan, which is estimated to be $4 million to $5 million for either option, the committee has narrowed its intent to either make a decision on staying at City Hall or moving the administrative offices to one of the transit buildings, with the exception of the Williamsport Bureau of Police.

City finance recommends design firm on alley transformation | News, Sports, Jobs

mmaroney@sungazette.com City Council’s finance committee on Tuesday gave a positive recommendation for council to authorize hiring Dewberry Engineering Inc. to redesign Willow Street in the city East End. Dewberry, if approved by council Thursday, would be paid $160,000 to do engineering design work making the one-way alley that lies between East Third and East Fourth streets and runs for a quarter-mile between Basin and Market streets, into a pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists. It would be reconstructed and include a bike path designation, landscaping such as rain gardens and permeable surfaces to take stormwater away and lighting improvements.

Resurfacing of Third Street to begin in summer | News, Sports, Jobs

mmaroney@sungazette.com MARK NANCE/Sun-Gazette Potholes and cracked pavement are shown on West Third Street between Walnut and Campbell Streets. About one mile of Third Street west of Mulberry Street to Seventh Avenue is scheduled for resurfacing and addition of curb cuts at intersections this summer. “We are planning to resurface not reconstruct the street,” said Chris King, a state Department of Transportation District 3 spokesman during Monday’s Williamsport Area Transportation Study technical committee meeting. PennDOT has wanted to reconstruct the street but financial challenges occurred during COVID-19, said Scott Williams, Lycoming County transportation planner. “It’s not a total reconstruction but it will help,” he said.

Nov. 10 Veterans Memorial Park wouldn’t have evolved without the kind donations and support of thousands of people over the years, according to local veterans who have overseen its development over the past quarter century. “It’s what put the park here,” said Howard Wilt, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and chairman of the Veterans Memorial Park Commission.

UAE to see more intelligent buildings as part of the new normal

Get ready for touch-less screens, facial recognition and heat sensors The construction sector is pushing for faster adoption of technology Image Credit: Supplied As we start living in this strange ‘new normal’, industry experts say technology will play a greater role in this transformation. The market is set to see a renewed interest for latest tools such as intelligent building monitoring systems (BMS), touch-less access control systems, facial recognition, heat sensor, advanced HAVAC and drones, to name a few. According to Jon Sander, associate partner of Godwin Austen Johnson (GAJ), which has created some of the UAE’s most iconic buildings, “the emphasis should be on how can we futureproof our homes while having spaces for social interaction.”Architects and designers are being called upon to think ahead of time and come up with something that is authentic but at the same time adaptable to an individual’s needs while addressing issue
