the president apparently has some line of communication open to the taliban. why not just lay down a marker and say hey, we need another couple of weeks to get our people out? because sadly that was not the agreement that was struck between the biden administration and the taliban. there was originally the september 11th deadline. the taliban were okay with it. then president biden didn t like the optics. he moved it forward to august 31st, and the taliban said okay that s the new deadline. if we try to go back and renegotiate that, we don t have leverage. we don t have a position of strength. we are in a very vulnerable position at the airport. i went to afghanistan thinking that we were trying to push that deadline forward. what i saw on the ground, my conversations with commanders there, strongly suggested that that would be a mistake, that if we broke down that agreement with the taliban, we would be putting more american lives at risk. we would be preventing any additional folks
