There have been multiple bear sightings in the Black Hills in recent weeks, including in Lead, Johnson Siding, and near Reptile Gardens.
Officials say that it’s common for larger animals in places like Wyoming and Minnesota to come to a place like the Black Hills in search of a place to settle.
At this time, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks continues to record, monitor, and map the sightings but remind the public to keep areas clean of food, trash and even dog food that could attract bears and other wildlife.

Severe weather brings tornadoes, heavy rain to parts of area

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Unsettled weather led to a Tornado Watch and some severe weather around the area yesterday.
At least one tornado was sighted on the ground north of Faith and straight line winds brought down some trees in Custer County. Weather officials also believe a tornado is responsible for tree damage north of Pringle. In Spearfish Canyon near Cheyenne Crossing, a downed tree fell onto some power lines.
Pea sized hail and over an inch of rain fell in the Johnson Siding area while one-inch hail was reported close to downtown Rapid City.

If you re planning a family vacation to the Black Hills this summer, there s a chance you might be able to see a bear without having to make a visit to Bear Country USA.
Black bear sightings in the Hills are on the increase right now that news has wildlife officials concerned about public safety.
I mean, who doesn t like bears, right? Women typically find them adorable. As a man growing up, I remember watching Gentle Ben on TV and thinking it would be really cool to have one as a pet.
