Sept. 3, 1975 LOUISVILLE, Ky.  In 1975, Louisville s predominantly Black city school system merged with the predominantly white county schools. Courts ordered Jefferson County Public Schools to take kids to schools throughout the new district to desegregate classrooms. What used to be a benign method of transportation school buses became a source of contention, because they now carried Black students.  White parents protested forced busing a term that decades later carries racist undertones because of those demonstrations.
