A Galesburg District 205 student was hit by a vehicle this morning while waiting for the school bus to arrive. District 205 Superintendent John Asplund tells WGIL the student goes to King Elementary and was waiting at the bus stop by the Prairieland Apartments. Praireland is located just off one of the southernmost points of Seminary St. Asplund says the student is believed to be ok, and school was remaining in session for Tuesday despite some rumors to the contrary. The bus was not present at the time of the incident. Galesburg Police were not able to immediately comment on if anyone was in custody or facing charges for the incident. Several members of the Galesburg area community were presented with awards on Thursday from the Fraternal Order of Police Spoon River Valley Lodge #427. The awards were in recognition of individuals and organizations who stepped up following the killing of Knox County Sheriff's Deputy Nicholas Weist on April 29. Deputy Weist himself was awarded two honors posthumously from the lodge that he belonged to; including the FOP Valor and Life Saving Awards. Weist has killed trying to set up spike strips to stop a gun-wielding suspect who was fleeing from and firing at pursuing officers. The fleeing vehicle struck Weist but the vehicle was disabled because of his actions, allowing the suspect to be apprehended shortly later. There were several Galesburg area groups and people that received FOP's Blue and Gold Award. Some of those include; Military Memories and More in Knoxville and their owner Ryan Scalf for shutting down day-to-day operations to produce memorial items. Cooks & C
