johannesburg hospital after being admitted for what they are saying were routine tests. the state department confirms that mandela has been complaining of chest pains in recent days. his family was immediately called to the hospital after his arrival. doctors have diagnosed an unspecified lung infection. they say that mandela was struggling to breathe when he first arrived there. south african president jacob zuma in davos cautioned against jumping to any conclusions today. he was at the world economic forum in switzerland. president mandela, given his age, he has been getting to a hospital for a checkup. i m sure checkups are more frequent than when he was a healthy young man. this, as i understand, is one of the checkups. mandela turned 92 july 18th. he has stayed mostly out of public view. one of his most recent public appearances was during the summer s world cup. in 2001, nelson mandela was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
