Three backcountry skiers were caught in an avalanche and one was killed in the Maroon Bowl on Sunday afternoon, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office. Search and rescue crews recovered the body of the person killed and transported the two survivors back to safety before dark Sunday night.
