employers adding 224,000 jobs last month. that was much higher than anticipated. the unemployment rate ticked up to from its 50 year low at 3.7%. get this, that s because the strong economy lured more people 335,000 to be exact. after this, the dow, s&p 500 still closing at record highs on july 3rd. meantime the federal reserve are prepared to make a key decision on interest rates later this month. fed chair powell is due also to testify on capitol hill later this week. joining me now is former white house communications director antho anthony scaramucci. let s start with the jobs reports. people were bracing for something really ugly, 224,000 was magnificent. 335,000 people back in the labor force. it s really i mean this is the ultimate economic data point. what do you make of it? well, a lot of great things going on. to dovetail it into your last conversation, the reduction of
that s the advantage of being a governor. we ve actually had real accomplishments. you know, when you talk about education, that gets you directly to jobs. the jobs report out this morning, it was a big report. the u.s. economy added 224,000 jobs in june, blowing past all expectations that had been set. how do you make the argument when you see continued jobs reports, when you see a trend like we are seeing, how do you argue that this economy isn t working? well, three things. number one, it s not working as well as our economy in washington state. i m proud to say that what i working with many people in washington have been able to do is build a better economy than donald trump s economy. we have higher gdp than his national rate. we have a higher wage growth. we have been named the best place to do business in the united states and the best place to work in the united states. so we have a proven track record of a middle out economy as well. this is the difference. donald trump ha
this morning the u.s. jobs reports are passing expectations, but is that bad news for a president who wants the fed to cut interest rates? joining me now is peter navarro, director for white house office of trade and manufacturing policy. mr. navarro, thanks very hutch for joining. let s start with those job numbers, certainly good numbers. 225,000, above expectations particularly after a slow may. in your view does that take away the case for the fed to cut interest rates? i love the fact 17,000 of those were manufacturing, and like 6 million jobs to date, one of the things that i love is that we re getting people back into the labor force. we ve got over a million now workers in prime age back into the work force, labor force with participation rates going up. yesterday the parade i was at, well, everyone was watching these incredible planes and tanks and everything like that. what i saw was jobs.
you look particularly at college educated white voters. they say the economy is good and strong. only half that many, so while he is drifting slightly up in this poll with the improvement he still remains in a position because of doubts about his personal behavior as president. it is worth noting on the election day exit poll 45% slightly better said they approved president trump and republicans lost the popular vote by about 10 million. it s the biggest midterm margin. but that gap is theoretically where he makes this argument. you may not like me. you may not like my tone. you may not like me personally but do you like the economy? do you like the jobs reports? do you like feeling better about things? do you like affording that car or your kids school?
