about 325,000 people came into the labor market. and that s something you can expect to see ten years into an economic recovery. ten years into a jobs expansion. people who have been out of the labor market not looking are like, hey, maybe this is my time to get back in. where is the hiring. we saw it in food services, restaurants and bars. we saw business. 22,000 jobs there. manufacturing, that is that gm strike. that gm strike was six weeks long. nearly 50,000 workers. and this is what it looks like for manufacturing jobs. boom. we ve been concerned about this recession in manufacturing. we re going to get another really important manufacturing number later this morning to tell us about the health of the manufacturing sector. but all of that over there is because of that gm strike. let s look at the average. really important to see where we stand here. right now for the year on average about 167,000 net new jobs each month. you can see that that is still steady hiring. that is still
a december to cap off the best year of jobs growth, 312,000 jobs growth were added. the jobless rate writing permits near 50 year low but that is because more people were entering the workforce. the participation rate jumping above 63%. wages were up over 3%, finishing the best full year of wage growth in ten. 2008 teams are the best year of job creation since 2015. over 2.6 million jobs added. that extends the longest stretch of jobs expansion and history. lots of positions available on health care and hospitality, leisure with both sectors adding over 50,000 in the month and a huge year for manufacturing, over 30,000 jobs in december. that brings the total to 264,000 on the year, the biggest annual increase for their sector in 21 years. and the strong labor reports underline a growing u.s.
