Columbus Drops Two Against Wapello

The Columbus Wildcat softball team scored their second straight win Wednesday, beating New London 7-1. The victory over the Tigers comes on the heels of a 5-2 win against Mount Pleasant over the weekend. Columbus jumped on the Tigers early, building a 6-0 lead with two runs in the first, one in the second, two more in the third and a single run in the sixth. New London got on the board with one in the bottom of the sixth, but Columbus tacked on another insurance run in their last at bat to finish the win. The Wildcats were led by a three hit night from Jobie Lekwa with two RBI. Lily Coil and Michelle Diaz each had two hits. Libby White got the win in the circle, working six and a third innings, allowing just one hit, one run, walking five and striking out four. Columbus is now 2-2 on the season, they travel to Wapello tonight.

Columbus Splits Two in L&M Tournament

The first tournament of the year for the Columbus Community softball team resulted in a split on Saturday at Louisa-Muscatine. The Wildcats led Lisbon 2-0 for much of game one, but a late Lion rally resulted in an 8-3 loss. Columbus could muster up just four hits with Jobie Lekwa recording one of them and one RBI. Lily Coil tossed six innings in the circle giving up four earned runs on nine hits and striking out eight. The Wildcats responded in the finale with a four run sixth inning to propel them past Mount Pleasant 5-2. Victoria Howell brought in a pair of tallies and Michelle Diaz registered one RBI. Libby White was the winning pitcher throwing four innings giving up one earned run on four knocks. 

Trio of Area Teams Square Off at Cedarcrest

It’s an all-KCII area affair in Columbus Junction tonight when the Wildcats host a boys and girls golf triangular against the Washington Demons and Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. Mid-Prairie is the only one of the three teams to compete already this season, taking on Iowa City Regina in River Valley Conference action Monday. The Golden Hawk girls scored a win over Regina at Pleasant Valley 252-271 led by meet medalist Elliot Debler and her score of 60. The Mid-Prairie boys were beaten by the Regals 222-228 in Kalona. The Golden Hawk boys were led by Warren Scarff and his meet medalist runner-up round of 52.
