TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After an eight hour weather delay and many changes to the schedule, the Noles split two games of a doubleheader with an 8-1 win over Purdue (1-1) and 5-4 loss to Longwood (1-1). Game Two Florida State vs. Purdue Kalei Harding got the Noles going off a RBI double in the first inning, and they never looked back in game two. After Purdue tied the game at one in the top of the second, the Seminoles responded with four-run inning in the third inning. Harding got the scoring going again with an RBI double. Mack Leonard responded with a RBI double of her own before Katie Dack hit a two-run home run to blow the game open. The Noles added a run in the fourth inning before Harding continued her terrific night with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Kathryn Sandercock got the start in the circle and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out nine batters. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State softball team (4-1) used an impressive pitching performance and some timely hitting to take down Longwood (1-3) 5-0 Sunday afternoon in the final game of the JoAnne Graf Classic at JoAnne Graf Field.
A combined pitching effort between Mack Leonard, Allison Royalty and Makenna Reid only surrendered one hit to the Lancers and combined to throw a complete-game shutout. Leonard got the start and pitched 2.2 innings allowing one hit while striking out two batters.
Royalty came in to relieve Leonard and was phenomenal. Royalty pitched 3.1 innings and did not surrender a hit while striking out 5 batters and was credited with the win. Reid came on in the final inning and struck out all three batters she faced.
Offensively, the Noles came alive in the fourth inning, pushing four runs across the plate. Leonard led off the inning with a double, and after Autumn Belviy came in to pinch run, Kalei Harding put the ball in play and an error by the Lance
Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State softball team (2-0) opened the season with two victories on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Lipscomb (0-2) followed by a 4-1 win over Lipscomb (0-2) in game two. Florida State 3, Lipscomb 0 Kathryn Sandercock pitched a complete game and allowed one hit and zero runs with two strikeouts. After an empty first inning, Michaela Edenfield hit a double into left field which brought home Wacaser. Edenfield then ran in a score of her own off a sacrifice fly by Josie Muffley. Both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but the Florida State defense played an efficient two innings as they earned six outs in six pitches. In the bottom of the fifth, Mack Leonard began the inning reaching first on an error by the short stop which allowed Mudge to score from third.
