Recently, we looked back at several local individuals and groups who achieved some notable successes in the performing arts, but exactly what nurtured all that talent? One might argue that attending San Francisco schools, either public or parochial, in the 1950s and 1960s, gave us all a taste of show business at an early age.
My own acting debut was in December 1957 on stage at Parkside School. As part of the Christmas (a word still used in public schools back then) pageant, many of us kindergarteners were interspersed on stage among the big third sixth graders in the cast. Our non-speaking roles involved holding/shaking flocked, glitter-encrusted cardboard snowflakes, thus setting the wintertime scene. Like many other news organizations, Newsmax Media Inc. regularly spends money to promote its stories on the social media platform.
But Newsmax’s $25,000 expenditure for its piece touting the Trump endorsement in the local race stood out, given that it was the only of the cable outfit’s 54 ad buys last month that targeted a single state New York leading up to the city’s June 22 primary election.

Boston College head coach Earl Grant continued to add the Class of 21 with the addition of point guard Jaeden Zackery (Chipola College). The Wisconsin native has four years of eligibility according to reports, and was reportedly recruited by new assistant coach Jim Molinari.
Zackery from Salem, Wisconsin averaged 12.5 points per game on 52.1% shooting from the field and 42.% shooting from three point range. He was named Third Team All American for National Junior College Athletic Association.
