Missing LSU Student Identified as Body Found in Mississippi River

Authorities have confirmed that the body found in the Mississippi River on Tuesday morning has been identified as 18-year-old Kori Gauthier. The LSU student and Opelousas native has been missing since last Wednesday when her vehicle was discovered at a salvage yard. Gauthier s family grew suspicious after they were unable to get in contact with her, leading them to find her vehicle. It was then that her family found out that her car had been wrecked on the Mississippi River bridge along I-10, but Gauthier wasn’t in the car at the time but her wallet and cell phone were left inside.

Neronha slams CRMC over approval of Jamestown Boat Yard expansion

Neronha slams CRMC over approval of Jamestown Boat Yard expansion By Jim Hummel PROVIDENCE  For the second time in two months Attorney General Peter F. Neronha is questioning how the state’s Coastal Resources Management Council handled a request for a waterfront expansion, this time from a boatyard in Jamestown, saying the agency skipped required steps in the approval process. In a strongly worded four-page letter Monday to the agency’s chairwoman, Jennifer Cervenka, Neronha said there were “inadequacies” in a draft decision, adding that the way CRMC made its decision “confused and frustrated the public’s trust in the structured and formal agency decision-making process designed to protect our environment.”

Warwick firefighter budget soars as overtime climbs

WARWICK  A year after the city’s former mayor sold a new firefighters contract in part on the promise it would save $600,000 the first year, the department has run more than $1 million in the red, largely because of a steep overtime tab that saw the top earner make $316,000 last year. That’s more than four times his base pay, and $219,000 of it was overtime. That translates to his averaging 78 hours of overtime on top of his 42-hour average work week. “The optics of that stink to the public,” said Fire Chief Peter K. McMichael, adding that the department is down 20 firefighters from where he would like to be. “We see people having to fill in, often in a mandatory manner, not having the choice. We’re doing a lot of ordering [overtime] right now.”
