Formosa International Hotels Corp (FIH, 晶華國際酒店集團) yesterday posted NT$295 million (US$10.53 million) in net income for last quarter, up 87.27 percent from a year earlier as properties across Taiwan largely rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The figures are the best showing in five quarters and translated into earnings per share of NT$2.11, FIH said after a board meeting.
The virus outbreak was well under control last quarter, allowing business to pick up at the Regent Taipei (台北晶華酒店), Silks Place Tainan (台南晶英酒店), Silks Place Taroko (太魯閣晶英酒店) in Hualien County and Wellspring by Silks (晶泉丰旅) in Yilan County’s Jiaosi Township (礁溪), it said.

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday sent 600,000 text messages to people who had been in Taipei’s Wanhua District (萬華) between April 15 and Wednesday, asking them to be tested at designated community facilities if they have had symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell since April 15.
The center made the announcement after reporting 25 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, 13 locally transmitted and 12 imported.
The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday urged people to increase vigilance and thoroughly practice preventive measures against COVID-19 as it reported 16 locally transmitted cases of the disease.
Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the center, said that 21 cases were confirmed in Taiwan yesterday: 16 local cases, four imported cases and one case undetermined.
The locally transmitted cases are three linked to a cluster of infections at a gambling house in Yilan County, 10 associated with a previous case in New Taipei City and three with unclear sources of infection.
