The Los Angeles City Council learned nothing from the city of Long Beach. Instead, they poured milk on stupid, and decided to pass their own version of Hero Pay, requiring Supermarket chains to pay their workers an extra $5.00 an hour in hazard pay.
The result was, as expected.
“Two Ralphs and a Food 4 Less will close by May in Los Angeles, a decision the parent company says was accelerated by a city mandate requiring workers earn an extra $5 hourly in “hazard pay” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Cincinnati-based Kroger said it’s shuttering the underperforming stores Ralphs at 9616 W. Pico Blvd. and 3300 W. Slauson Ave. and a Food 4 Less at 5420 W. Sunset Blvd. The stores will close May 15, affecting 289 employees.
“I am humbled and honored for Coach [Henri Hooft], [Aung La N Sang] and the whole group [Sanford MMA] for welcoming me into the fold,” said the 43-year-old Vera. “Iron sharpens Iron and during this #corona world it’s hard to find a fire burning hot enough, let alone them inviting you in [with] open arms.”
The names of Arjan Bhullar of India and Amir Aliakbari of Iran, two renowned wrestlers who signed with ONE Championship last year, and recent winners Mauro Cerilli of Italy and Oumar Kane of Senegal are on Vera’s radar.
Vera was scheduled to fight Bhullar last May at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City but was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Reigning ONE Championship heavyweight king Brandon Vera teased fans of his much-awaited comeback in the Circle.
“I would say abangan niyo for the first half of the year,” said Vera, who recently returned to the Philippines to finish a film and commercial shootings.
That said, the 43-year-old Filipino-American has since set sights on future contenders for his third world title defense.
A couple of heavyweight matches are scheduled in ONE: Unbreakable II at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday. Mauro Cerilli of Italy will take on Russian Abdulbasir Vagabov while Cameroonian-born Alain Ngalani of Hong Kong will lock horns with Oumar Kane of Senegal.
