Jon Klassen is an all-star.
In my opinion he’s been one of the brightest lights in Canadian picture books in the past decade, both as an author and illustrator. I’d even go so far as to rank him right up there with Jeremy Tankard (and right now, my co-workers are probably falling over in disbelief).
While it wasn’t his first published illustrated work, Klassen’s talent really came to light in 2011 when he wrote and illustrated I Want My Hat Back, a story about a bear whose hat had been stolen by another animal. The story takes an unexpected turn at the end, is disturbingly funny, and prompted Klassen to write two more books in the series: This is Not My Hat, and We Found a Hat.
