HUNTINGTON In a lawsuit filed by a Marshall University student against the City of Huntington over alleged excessive force by an officer, the city alleges that it and the officer have qualified immunity and want the lawsuit dismissed.

Top Notch Kitchen and Stephanie Bowling, who is doing business as Generations Building & Remodeling, were also named as defendants in the suit.
Tanya Roberts suffered a fire that devastated her home and it was deemed a total loss and was demolished, so in June 2020, she contracted with the defendants to construct a new home, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Roberts claims the defendants negligently performed their jobs and damaged her property and made it so that her residence could not be built upon it.
Roberts is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is represented by Robert H. Sweeny of Jenkins Fenstermaker in Huntington.
HUNTINGTON â A new councilwoman is in town.
The Huntington City Council selected Sarah Walling to represent District 4. The vacancy was created last month when former Council Chairwoman Jennifer Wheeler resigned. She moved out of the district.
Walling took the oath of office Thursday.
âItâll be an honor to serve on council,â Walling said following the meeting. âWe had an excellent pool of candidates. It was a hard-fought fight.â
Walling, a Democrat, has lived in Huntington since 2010. She is a partner with the law firm Jenkins Fenstermaker. She is also on boards for local community organizations, such as Little Victories Animal Rescue and CONTACT. She is president of the board of Facing Hunger Foodbank and the Ronald McDonald House.
