information center to explain. peg? reporter: well, leslie, attorney general has sent a letter to virginia s colleges and universities, urging them to drop these protection policies that have been in place for decades. if colleges follow his advice, it could mean that a professor could be discriminated against just for being gay. he is overstepping his boundaries. reporter: that s what this george mason student and staff member thinks of the attorney general s request. that virginia s colleges and universities do away with their long-standing policies that ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. it is curious. let s put it that way. that they will feel a need just two months into their tenure in office, that this is something that was a high priority for them. reporter: george mason spokesperson dan walsh says the university doesn t yet know if it will follow the advice. the attorney general who is a self described social conservative says in his lett
i m lesli foster in for 9 news now. the police officers involved in thursday s shootout at a security check.are speaking out for the first time. this morning officers jeffrey amos and marvin carraway and colin richards described what happened on the early show. we have the story. i. i looked at the shooter. we made eye contact and the look he had on his face and the glare in his eyes, i knew something was about to happen. reporter: this pentagon police officer marvin carraway was standing guard on thursday evening along with fellow officers jeffrey amos and colin richards. that s when john patrick bedell strolled up and started to shoot. the shooter drew his weapon and started to fire at me. everything was very quick and at the same time very slow. once i heard what was a gunshot, i immediately turned and about to exit the booth. when i saw the guy running at me toward the weapon i immediately began to fire. all three officers returned fire, shooting and kil
