Three Lemmon Valley residents awarded $1 1 million over 2017 flooding

The city of Reno was ordered Monday morning to pay $1.1 million to the owners of three Lemmon Valley homes in a lawsuit over the flooding of their properties in 2017.  The Swan Lake Basin flooded nearby homes in 2017 after the city of Reno pumped or diverted excess stormwater into Swan Lake Basin. More than 60 homes were damaged. Dozens of residents later filed a class-action lawsuit against the city. On Monday, Second Judicial District Court Judge Barry Breslow ordered the city to make the payment by 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to Roger Doyle, the residents attorney. Approximately $931,000 was awarded for damages plus interest from the past four years that the residents have been battling the city in court, Doyle said. An additional $231,000 was awarded for the cost of expert witnesses.
