Co-owner of downtown Fong’s says she was fired without cause Monday, March 8, 2021 10:56 AM Des Moines Register: The co-founder, part-owner and manager of the downtown Des Moines Fong’s Pizza says she has been fired “without notice or cause” after filing suit against other members of the ownership group. Gwen Page, in a written statement issued late Friday, said a group of investors, including Jeff Bruning, owner of the Full Court Press restaurant group, fired her during a special board meeting Thursday. An attorney for those owners said Page’s claim was “fiction.”

Reported digital circulation is holding more or less steady, but at a low level, but internal numbers show it rising nicely. Executives can’t explain that discrepancy. In the six months ended Sept. 30, the latest period for which figures are available, print circulation of the Sunday Register averaged 53,274. Daily print circulation averaged 33,077. A year earlier, in the third quarter of 2019, Sunday circulation was 67,353, daily 38,904. That’s a year-to-year drop of 21 percent on Sunday, 15 percent daily.

Kim Reynolds stood by her decision to lift a mandate that required Iowans to wear masks and placed limitations on capacities for Iowa businesses. I’m not saying go out there and be carefree and irresponsible, Reynolds said. I’m saying I trust Iowans to do the right thing, and I know our businesses will do the right thing, too. With the choice now in their hands, some business owners are choosing to stick with mask requirements they already had in place.
