Cyber Crime: Just 0.8% of the 1,95,409 complaints filed from Maharashtra on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal from January 2022 to May 2023 resulted in an FIR, shows information obtained under the RTI Act.
The information discloses a changing pattern in the nature of crimes against women. There has been a 139% increase in workplace harassment cases and 217% rise in complaints related to social atrocities and rape from 2017-18 to 2022-23
The RTI filed by young activist Jeetendra Ghadge showed that BMC has put these officials back on duty despite being suspended for serious offences. Most of them were primarily caught red-handed for accepting bribes
As per information, most officials were reinstated in the solid waste management department (53), followed by city engineer’s department (23), and health department (17).
