I think we need to have a two track approach that allows for us to first address those more doable items, shortterm, medium term items that will allow for us to hope to get bipartisan, bicameral support. Those would include weatherization, charging stations, investment in r d because the innovation will be very important. Shoring up and hardening our existing infrastructure because no matter how quickly we do a climate plan, it will be a while before the impact is felt. So we need to harden that existing infrastructure and weave a green component what i believe is an infrastructure build need we have today. We need this issue to be addressed in this calendar year. Like much the idea of a Farewell Speech. I havent spent a great deal of time contemplating it over the years ive been here. Im not a big fan of the concept. But i want to respect the tradition, especially since ivy witnessed so many Senate Traditions crumble over the last 12 years. So i will do my best to get through this without breaking up. A traditional Farewell Speech in the United States senate is full of accomplishments and thanks. Im going to skip half of that. Im extremely proud of my body of work over 34 years of public service, but it is for others to judge, and i wont dwell on it today other than to say it is a long list and a tangible demonstration of the value of hard work.
