PM Boris Johnson riding along the canal THE Prime Minister took an early morning canal bike ride in Stourbridge with West Midlands Mayor Andy Street in a final pre-polling day push for votes. Boris Johnson stopped to speak and take photos with a few members of the public as he said Mr Street would boost skills and drive long term growth in jobs if re-elected after Thursday s election. The pair knocked on a few doors and handed leaflets out at a Kwik-Fit garage after a bike ride along the Stourbridge Canal this morning (Wednesday). He also stopped off at Stourbridge Football Club.

The vaccination programme continues to work brilliantly, and lives have been saved from the protection they give. The figures are just amazing. On Sunday, the total number of vaccine doses given in the UK reached 46.3 million. Around 33.7 million people have now received their first dose and 12.6 million are fully vaccinated. This is keeping infection rates and, crucially, hospitalisations low across the West Midlands. The key now is to keep up the pace. The vaccine take-up for those who are older has been magnificent, but we need to make sure all age groups want to get the jab.
From greater support for victims to stopping closures of police stations, candidates for West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner have set out their priorities. The winning candidate after election day on May 6 will be responsible for holding West Midlands Police and Chief Constable Sir David Thompson to account. The commissioner will also be responsible for setting the police and crime objectives for the force as well as its budget. Outgoing PCC David Jamieson (Lab) has also been the face of the force at weekly Covid-19 regional media briefings since the start of the pandemic. Simon Foster (Labour) Simon Foster, a legal aid solicitor who specialises in housing law, is running for PCC on behalf of the Labour party.
