WINNIPEG: The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms represents churches and individuals who are challenging government lockdown restrictions in the Court of Queenâs Bench as unjustified violations of the Charter freedoms to associate, worship, and assemble peacefully. The hearing commenced on May 3, 2021 and is continuing this week.
The onus is on the Manitoba Government to justify its restrictions on Charter rights and freedoms as being reasonable, necessary and beneficial.
One of the crucial issues in this trial is the operation and reliability of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test that is used by governments across Canada, including the Manitoba Government, to diagnose Covid and measure its spread.
WINNIPEG The associate medical director of Cadham Provincial Laboratory testified Monday morning during the second week of a constitutional court case over the province’s public health orders. Dr. Jared Bullard was cross-examined by lawyer Jared Brown - a lawyer representing a group of seven Manitoba churches and three individuals fighting the restrictions on the grounds they infringe on Charter rights to hold religious and public gatherings. Court heard Cadham is one of the labs that performs tests for the province on samples collected from individuals at COVID-19 swab sites to determine whether those samples are positive or negative.
WINNIPEG A Winnipeg mom says her family is at home isolating after her 9-year-old son tested positive for COVID-19. An outbreak has since been declared at the boy’s school and students have transitioned to remote learning. “He’s bounced back pretty quick, so we’re really thankful for that,” said Sarah Carroll. “The scary part is kind of seeming to be over.” As cases climb in schools, questions continue to surface about the safety of in-person classes. Carroll’s son is a grade 3 student at École Marie-Anne-Gaboury. Last Wednesday he woke up with a fever and later tested positive for the disease.
