US men live shorter lives than US women as the gap in life expectancy worsens. Expand lung cancer screening to 5 million more people, says American Cancer Society

Five million more Americans should be screened for lung cancer with low dose computed tomography every year, according to the American Cancer Society.1 Asymptomatic people aged 50 to 80 who formerly smoked or are current smokers with a 20 pack year smoking history should be offered screening, says new guidelines from the society, while screening may also be recommended for those over 80 who are in good health.
