The Massachusetts Constitution is the oldest continuously operational document of its kind in the world, and its author was future president John Adams, whose wife, Abigail, famously asked the Founding Fathers to “remember the ladies.”
But they didn’t not when the pioneering Mrs. Adams made her request before the Declaration of Independence was written, nor four years later, when the state’s governing document was approved in 1780.
David Fill to remain Hadley’s Select Board chairman

HADLEY Breaking a recent tradition of having Select Board chairpersons serve one year in the role, David J. Fill II will remain as the board’s chairman.
Despite an appeal from board member Jane Nevinsmith to assume the leadership position, the board voted 4-1, with Nevinsmith casting the dissenting vote, to keep Fill as chairman, following a nomination by Joyce Chunglo, the board’s longest-serving member.
“He just got his feet wet and I think one more year, and then I would like to offer it to Jane for next year,” Chunglo said.
No contested races in Hadley town election

HADLEY Hadley voters will not be deciding any contested races when they go to the polls Tuesday, but they will have a chance to offer an opinion on whether town elections should be held later in the spring.
Polls at the Hadley Senior Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and all elected positions will be filled by either incumbents or newcomers running unopposed
Incumbents on the ballot include Joyce Chunglo for a three-year seat on the Select Board, Michael P. Sarsynski, Jr. for a five-year term on the Planning Board, Humera M. Fasihuddin and Paul Phifer for three-year seats on the School Committee, Randall E. HADLEY Before the project to make Route 9 a four-lane road from Hadley center to the shopping malls begins, elected town officials are seeking to remove one of two proposed bicycle lanes.
The Select Board is urging the state’s Department of Transportation to have just one bicycle lane on the 2.4-mile-long stretch of Route 9 after it a split 3-2 vote on the metter at its Jan. 20 meeting,
