As the creator and writer of six seasons of
Downton Abbey and its feature-film sequel, Julian Fellowes has already demonstrated his skill at evoking the lives of titled English families and their servants. He’s right at home in a world of upstairs-downstairs proprieties and politics, loaded with corsets, carriages and gala balls.
The six-part
Belgravia, adapted from his 2016 novel, is set in comparable territory, although it’s more like Downton’s darker cousin. This time the drama is framed by grief and regret, and a sadness runs through it.
