Be escalating the civil war. There are new concerns the assad regime is preparing to use chemical weapons. Lets get to our pentagon correspondent barbara starr. Barbara, how does this change the u. S. Militarys syria plan . Are we talking u. S. Troops, boots on the ground . Well, not at this point, clearly, deb. But what we do know is that u. S. Officials tell us that they are updating some of the military options for action against syrias chemical weapons capability, why are they doing this . Of course, we chatted about this in the last several days. Officials say they do have the intelligence now that syria has filled aerial bombs with deadly sarin gas. Havent moved it to airplanes yet, but this is very concerning because that, of course, would be the next step. So once you have the deadly bombs, the u. S. Has to look at what the options could be, what they might want to target to essentially take out that kind of capabilities. So thats the options that are now being worked on. Deb .

Also disabled americans who visit or live in other countries could potentially benefit from the u. N. Treaty. 125 countries ratified it. But on tuesday, 38 u. S. Republican senators voted against it. There names are right there. Some of them flipflopped at the last minute. Some had signaled support for the treaty and then indicated theyd vote for it only to vote against it. One of the measures cosponsored, jerry mirrand, actually voted against it. So the guy who cosponsored it voted against it. We asked him to come on the program yesterday, today as well. He declined. Because of this particular fire caused so much devastation and anxiety among those people who live in that part of eastern australia. Ministry putfense its hand up and acknowledge this . What we are hearing in eastern australia tonight is the military says its investigation are still continuing. The fire service said it has carried out its own inquiry and is satisfied the military was to blame. Causes ofook at the fire inustralia, many cause by lightning strikes or power cables rubbing together, causing sparks and strong winds. The work of arsonist cannot be discounted. Also the work of careless or reckless drivers flicking cigarette butts out of their car windows. It is very unusual for the military to be brought into this, so i would imagine the military top brass here in australia will not only be extremely concerned, they will be fairly devastated, too, that the actions of their staff, it would seem, would cause such a monumental inferno west of sydney. Thanks very much, indeed. Fr
