Bonchari MP Dies in Hospital Bonchari MP John Oroo Oyioka File Bonchari MP John Oroo Oyioka passed away on Monday evening, February 15, after a long illness. The family confirmed that Oyioka died at the Aga Khan hospital, Kisumu County, where he had been admitted for some time. The Gusii legislator was elected to parliament in 2013 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the High Court considered a petition he had filed against then winner Zebedeo Opore. The judges nullified Opore s victory under election malpractice laws.  Bonchari MP John Oroo Oyioka File Oyioka, however, served for a period of six months after which the Court of Appeal overturned the decision made by the High Court. In the subsequent by-election, Oyioka lost to Opore.

Yesterday, six candidates that will take on Kenyatta’s Jubilee wing in the coming by-elections on United Democratic Alliance, (UDA) party were unveiled for Nairobi governorship, Matungu and Kabuchai constituencies and three wards. This came as the DP held a meeting with the officials of UDA and MPs allied to him. Johnson Muthama, the new party’s interim chair, said they will go all out to ensure that the party wins all the seats.

Wheelbarrow party unveils candidates for upcoming mini polls

THE STANDARD By Mireri Junior | January 8th 2021 at 13:39:37 GMT +0300 United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party associated with Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday unveiled candidates for the forthcoming senate, parliamentary and ward by-elections in the country. Former Assitant Minister Margaret Wanjiru will fly the UDA party ticket in the Nairobi gubernatorial by-election, former Kenya Revenue Authority board member Evans Kakai will fly the wheelbarrow party ticket in the Kabuchai Constituency seat while Alex Lanya will run for the Matungu parliamentary seat. For Machako senator race, UDA is yet to settle on a candidate after 16 aspirants expressed interest in the party s ticket.

Battle lines drawn as UDA joins races for mini poll slots

This will be the first time UDA is fielding candidates after it changed its name from the Party for Reforms and Development (PDR), whose new symbol is a wheelbarrow. Anne Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, in a special gazette notice a week ago, had indicated that PDR was changing its name to UDA. Johnson Muthama, the UDA chairman, yesterday told The Standard that they had settled on the two candidates for Matungu and Kabuchai constituencies after a series of consultative meetings.
