Residents of the Whitehouse Plantation neighborhood on James Island say they want to be involved and informed about all plans for the tract of land that backs up to their homes.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration unanimously voted Wednesday in favor of recommending the first-ever over-the-counter birth control pill, saying benefits outweigh risks. The vote is a major step in a long push to make oral contraception obtainable over the counter in the United States.
The James Island Public Service District will begin work to replace septic tanks and connect sewer lines to 199 properties as residents will be moved from septic to sewer lines.

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) - A James Island Town Council workshop meeting turned heated Wednesday night after Mayor Bill Woolsey allegedly became upset and abruptly left the meeting.
Council members say he then returned with a recycling bin full of documents and proceeded to dump the contents onto the floor.
“He then went back into the town offices and got a second recycle bin and dumped it on the floor in front of all of us and then tossed the recycle bin across the conference room,” said Councilmember Cynthia Mignano. “I was definitely shocked. I found it to be unprofessional on his part. There are other ways that you can get your point across.”
