Dead and sick birds are being collected in a number of regions across the Western Cape, with the Bergrivier Municipality and Dyer Island in the Overberg the hotspots.
Earlier this week Bergrivier Municipality had been identified as a hotspot area with reports of dead birds from Velddrif to Arniston as well as additional hotspots on Dyer Island and Robben Island.
The Western Cape government says it is responding to a suspected outbreak of avian influenza among wild sea birds in the Bergrivier Municipality on the West Coast as well as the Walker Bay area in the Overberg.
