KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, May 6 (Xinhua) Gunmen shot and killed a senior government media official in Kandahar city, capital of Afghanistan s southern Kandahar province on Thursday, local police confirmed. Director of Public Relation Office of Ministry of Finance, Nemat Rawan, was shot dead by gunmen in Police District of 14 of Kandahar city Thursday morning, Jamal Barakzai from provincial police told Xinhua.
Rawan was a renowned journalist who previously worked as an anchor in local TV channel Tolo News TV s political programs, and was well-known for his profession in the political field.
Two armed men involved in the shooting escaped as soon as they found Rawan died inside his sedan. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Afghan journalists regarded the killing as a targeted attack.

7 Civilians Killed in Kandahar, Ghazni Blasts: Officials
At least seven civilians were killed in two roadside bomb blasts in Kandahar and Ghazni provinces in the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.
In Kandahar, four civilians were killed and three more were wounded in an explosion in Arghandab district in Kandahar on Friday afternoon, the provincial police spokesman Jamal Barakzai said.
He said the bomb was placed on a roadside in the Qabristan area in Arghandab district.
He added that a vehicle carrying civilians was targeted by the explosion.
Meanwhile, three civilians were killed and three more in a roadside bomb blast in Ghazni city’s district 3 on Saturday, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 16 (Xinhua) Four civilians were killed in an improvised bomb blast in Afghanistan s southern province of Kandahar Thursday night, local police confirmed on Friday. The victims, including a woman and two children, were members of a family. The blast which occurred in Zartali locality of Shah Wali Kot district also destroyed their vehicle, provincial police spokesman, Jamal Barakzai, told Xinhua.
Relatives of the victims were notified by the district police, he said.
Militants in Afghanistan have been using homemade improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
