JACKSON COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) – Jackson County Sheriff deputies arrested 74-year-old Gary Hughes at a home on Taylor Road in the Town of Springfield Sunday afternoon. According to a news release Sunday night, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received word from citizens Hughes was seen at the address off Taylor Road.
Law enforcement communicated with those citizens and said officers took Hughes into custody without further incident around 2 p.m Sunday afternoon. Hughes had a felony probation warrant on March 4, 2021, and a Jackson County Deputy attempted to arrest Hughes.
Hughes fired a gun at the deputy. The officer got out of the residence safely and called for backup. The search for Hughes extended into the weekend, consisting of a lengthy standoff as well as an aerial and foot search of the area, Jackson County authorities said.
