The work between the orinda and walnut creek station could lead to lengthy delays this weekend. For b. A. R. T riders no Train Service between the stations today and tomorrow, but free shuttle buses will replace the trains. Now, for drivers, two lanes of eastbound highway 24 near the lafayette station are closed from now through monday morning for construction staging. B. A. R. T is replacing tracks, electrical equipment, switches and platforms. The stretch of track is decades old, dating back to the start of service in 1972. Now, this is going to be the first of what will be six upcoming weekends through october in which a full shutdown will be in effect. On other weekends trains may single track through the work zone. They are cutting lines, doing some pretty good work according to the cal fire folks that we just talked to, trying to get a handle on this fire that is now burning to the east. Cal fire says, believe it or not, this is one of 10 to 12 fires now burning in this area. How much has burned . Cal fire tells us about 500 acres. This started several hours ago between 3 30 and 4 00 a. M. Here in the clayton area. As i said, up to 10 to 12 fires burning between here, marsh creek road, down to morgan terpt road, even down to deer valley road. Now, a Mobile Home Park is down in that area. It was evacuated for a time. Folks have now been allowed, according to cal fire, to return. Everyone else including the ranch here that is at the bottom of the hill where the flames are happening have been told to shelter in place. So far no evacuations.
