Palau’s human rights record to be examined by Universal Periodic Review
GENEVA (4 May 2021) – Palau’s human rights record will be examined by the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group for the third time on Friday, 7 May 2021, in a meeting that will be webcast live.
Palau is one of the 14 States to be reviewed by the UPR Working Group during its upcoming session taking place from 3 to 14 May . Palau’s first and second UPR reviews took place in May 2011 and January 2016, respectively.

Foreign minister to attend inauguration of Palau s new president

Taipei, Jan. 12 (CNA) Taiwan s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) will attend the upcoming inauguration of Palau s President-elect Surangel Whipps Jr. on Jan. 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.
Wu will travel to the Pacific ally Jan. 20 and return two days later, ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) said at a regular press briefing in Taipei.
Given the strong friendship between Taiwan and the Pacific island nation, which has not recorded a single coronavirus case to date, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) appointed Wu to head Taiwan s delegation to the inauguration of the new president and vice president, Ou said.
