it looks beautiful behind you now, rosa, but we know it is not going to be. we appreciate the report. rosa flores. the last time that a category 5 hurricane hit zoo miami there were storks by the toilets and trailers next upside down life at the zoo became after the hurricane andrew in 1992. with irma, stronger and bigger moving toward miami, what is the zoo doing today? the man to answer is joining me live now. ron mcgill is the communication s director for zoo miami. so ron, tell us how are you preparing for this? how are you planning to protect the animals from irma? well, brianna, snot a whole lot has changed. since 92 we went through wilma and katrina which gave us damage. andrew came through the center of the zoo. it devastated the facility. this isn t our first rodeo.
many levels. you have 213,000 students 218. 218,000 students. parent kind of look forward to the first day back at school so they can get their own lives back in order with child care, et cetera. parents have to go back to work at some point. so what s happening with all of those kids right now? obviously the entire houston community has been affected. houston is coming back to work. what we re doing is partnering with community-based organizations so we have those opportunities for especially younger students to have some kind of a structured environment before they come back to school. it s a hard call. what we don t want to do is put any of our students or faculty in a situation where the environment isn t conducive to learning. of course, or in danger. how are you going to figure out if all those buildings are structurally sound? we have a great team. i have to tell you, our district team is fantastic. this isn t our first rodeo. we ve dealt with flooding before. the as
snout i mean he s been, you know, on the lam as it were a couple days now. do you think he s alive? well, i can only give you my personal opinion based on the past. there s two things. either he s dead somewhere or someone is holding him up somewhere else in a house. so we ve seen a little bit of both. again, over the years. this isn t our first rodeo. we ve seen a little bit of everything. so it s we re not going to get into some of the investigative things that we have knowledge of. but rest assured, we are following up on every single lead. tons of manpower, not only locally, but nationally. we have pretty much everybody working on this investigation in this case. so again, i m very confident and optimistic that we ll bring closure here. do you think he could be outside the united states? are you asking me? anything is possible.
