at 10:00. i m shawn yancy. i m brian bolter. tonight two local counties admit they have a 911 problem on their hands and both wonder what verizon is doing to fix it. fox 5 s roz plater working the story down in the newsroom. it was a terrifying night for a silver spring community. the system they counted on to call for help was down and now lots of people are asking verizon what happened and why. just after 8:00 the night of january 26th this house on lanock way in silver spring on fire, trapped inside a 94-year- old woman. it was the same night of that horrible thunder snowstorm that left the area in gridlock. the power was out and so were many landlines. it was a feeling of just being completely helpless. reporter: rick dessey pulled out his verizon cell phone, called 911 but couldn t get through and neither could his neighbors. i remember even having my front door open and we have a glass storm door. i could feel the heat from the fire. reporter: two neighbors
