As we head into the final prep races before the 2021 Kentucky Derby the odds for this year’s favorites are shifting up and down with surprise victories, defeats and a general surprise in form for some of the horses.
In all, there will have been 46 prep races, which started back on 5 September with the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs, spanning 24 tracks across three continents. The field will be narrowed down to 20 thoroughbred horses come 1 May based on the points they have scored over the past eight months.
A few months before the Kentucky Derby 2021 and with more races scheduled for the Derby Prep Race, experts have already chosen their top 10 picks to contend on the Derby. There are even early favorites among the contenders as they travel the Road to the Kentucky Derby this year.
Six experts have already given their picks for the Derby. Each of them has a different opinion for each horse. To sum up all their picks, we will create our list of expert top 10 picks by including horses who have been selected multiple times.
Although there are 20 spots available in the race, these ten horses are the ones who stand-out and were included in more than one expert list in no particular order.

Sittin On Go pulls away from Midnight Bourbon in the Iroquois at Churchill Downs
This Saturday s Grade 3, $200,000 Holy Bull Stakes begins the three race series for sophomores at Gulfstream Park which continues with the Fountain of Youth Stakes and ends with the Florida Derby. With “Road to the Kentucky Derby” points on line, the Holy Bull is the starting off spot for many aspiring 3-year-olds hoping to prove themselves one of the 20 which can enter the starting gate in Louisville on the first Saturday in May.
In terms of horses with stakes credentials, 2020 Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes winner Sittin On Go deserves mentioning, but with ninth and sixth place finishes in two starts since the win there is certainly the question of whether he can return to top form.
