President Joe Biden ordered his first military airstrikes on Thursday, targeting “multiple facilities” used by by Iranian-backed militia groups in eastern Syria, according to the Pentagon.
The strikes were in response to recent attacks against American and U.S.-led Coalition personnel in Iraq and to “ongoing threats” to those personnel, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said in a statement Thursday evening.
“At President Biden’s direction, U.S. military forces earlier this evening conducted airstrikes against infrastructure utilized by Iranian-backed militant groups in eastern Syria,” Kirby said, adding:

Twitter suspended an account that was bearing the name of Iran leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for posting violent content and a death threat to former President Trump. It took Twitter 17 hours to put a stop to the hateful tweets.
An account bearing the name of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei tweeted this image, which depicts the likeness of Donald Trump on a golf course being targeted by a drone.
The death threat came from @khamenei site on Thursday, which was later determined to be a fake account. The tweet depicted the likeness of Trump on a golf course being viewed from above, and across the top read “Revenge is inevitable” translated from Farsi.
